A graduate of the School of Journalism, University of Missouri, he worked as reporter and editor of several newspapers: "El Paso Post", 1927-1930, where he covered the Escobar Rebellion; United Press in Texas and Kansas, 1930-1934; and "Buffalo Times", 1934-1936.
